Little Rock Trojans baseball falls to Western Illinois in series finale, capping historic week
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock Trojans baseball team lost the finale of their series against Western Illinois University Saturday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field, but cap off a historic week for the program.
Entering Saturday afternoon’s contest, the Trojans had won eight of their last ten games and hadn’t lost since the first game of a doubleheader against Lindenwood on April 7.
On Sunday, the team completed a series sweep of Ohio Valley Conference foes Morehead State with a 10-7 win during a three-run tenth inning.
The Trojans kept their bats hot and their spirits high entering a Tuesday afternoon contest against No. 11 Ole Miss in Oxford where they beat the Rebels 7-3, snapping a 10-game losing streak against the SEC powerhouse and marking their sixth win against them in program history.
When the team made it back home after their historic win, they had one day off before starting a conference series with WIU.
During the first game of the series on Thursday, the Trojans came out on top 10-8. They won again on Friday 11-7 to match the program’s longest win streak in 35 years.
Up next, the Trojans head to Fayetteville for a two-game midweek series against the Arkansas Razorbacks before returning home for a weekend series against SIUE.
In the very first contest between the Trojans and Razorbacks in 2019, Little Rock won 17-7 before the Hogs took over the all-time series, winning five of seven games.
