Travs Roundup: Arkansas loses Sunday, splits series with Wichita Wind Surge

WICHITA, Kan. — The Arkansas Travelers lost to the Wichita Wind Surge 15-7 on Sunday but still managed to split the series and stay one game back from first in the Texas League North.

Through the first three games of the series, the Travs won two games by a combined total of three runs before winning by six on Friday. Wichita won their first game of the series by two points on Tuesday, and won the final two games with a combined score of 26-9.

On Tuesday, the Travs placed shortstop Ben Ramirez on the 7-day injured list. Infielder Brock Rodden joined the 7-day injured list on Wednesday, prompting the team to promote shortstop Axel Sanchez to the roster from the High-A Everett AquaSox.

During Wednesday’s game, the Travelers swiped six bases including two-a-piece from Victor Labrada and Bill Knight. The Travs now have a Texas League-leading 87 stolen bases for the season, 25 more than the team with the second-most in the league.

The Travelers will now have a day off before heading to Springdale to take on the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. NWA’s roster features several of the top prospects in the Kansas City Royals system including first basemen Jac Caglianone, catcher Carter Jensen and outfielder Gavin Cross.

Arkansas will return to CHI St. Vincent Field at Dickey-Stephens Park on May 27 to take on the San Antonio Missions for a six-game series. To see the team’s upcoming promotional schedule or to buy tickets, visit Travs.com.
