Travs Roundup: Barkansas Dizzys win on Sunday to split series with Naturals
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On Sunday, the Arkansas Travelers held on to beat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 6-5, splitting the series for the week with their in-state rival.
All week the team was rebranded as the Barkansas Dizzys, earning national attention for the promotion which celebrated the birthday of ballpark pup Dizzy, named after Arkansas baseball legend Dizzy Dean.
On Tuesday, the homestand started with a tough 6-1 loss in front of a crowd of over 7,000 due in part to the seven strike outs by starting pitcher Shane Panzini.
Wednesday’s game featured a “first fetch” in which CTEH’s “Spot” the robot dog threw a ball for Dizzy to fetch before the game. The Travs lost to the Naturals 5-2 despite a solid five-inning performance from starting pitcher Adam Seminaris.
The Dizzys fetched a clutch 9-8 win from the Naturals on Thursday thanks to a massive two-run walk-off triple by Caleb Cali, completing a four-run bottom of the 9th.
After losing 10-2 on Friday night, the Travs got crucial back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday, pushing their record back over the .500 mark. The Travs are now tied with the Naturals for third place in the Texas League North with identical 32-31 records.
The Travelers remain at home this week and will take on the Wichita Wind Surge, a team that features pitchers Connor Prielipp and C.J. Culpepper, two of the top 10 players in the Minnesota Twins system.
On Wednesday, the Travs will take the field as Diamantes de Arkansas in salute of Hispanic Heritage. They will also have fireworks after Friday night’s game and will be giving away pickleball paddles on Saturday; to learn more visit Travs.com.
