Monroe County jail inmate believed to be killed by other inmates after booking

CLARENDON, Ark. – Arkansas State Police is investigating after they believe a Monroe County jail inmate was killed the same day he was booked.

According to ASP officials, investigators were called in Friday, Aug. 8 to assist with the suspected homicide of 44-year-old Terry Craig of Clarendon.

Special agents said Craig was booked earlier that day into the Monroe County Detention Center on charges of possession of child sexual abuse materials and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

ASP officials said Craig was taken to a hospital in Stuttgart after jail staff found him injured in his cell. He died later that night, officials said.

Other inmates have been identified as suspects, ASP officials said.
