Maumelle Animal Services adoption events bring seniors & pets together
MAUMELLE, Ark. – Two pet adoption events held by the City of Maumelle's Animal Services division are aiming to bring senior residents and furry friends together for a good cause.
The indoor adoption event took place at senior center Maumelle Center on the Lake Tuesday, where seniors will have a chance to meet cats and dogs looking for a home.
Center on the Lake director Nicole Vogler said that the event allowed seniors to find a perfect companion. She added that research shows that owning a pet has advantages, including boosting physical health and lowering the risk of depression.
A meet and greet with residents at senior living community Audubon Pointe Apartments will be held next week. The event will be held for residents who were affected by the apartment fire in January.
Animal services director Chris Davis said the decision to take pets to the community came after the Maumelle Fire Department gained positive attention following the fire.
"During that incident, the detection dog with the Maumelle Fire Department garnered so much positive attention from the evacuees we felt like taking some of our pets over to visit with them would be valuable for both the shelter animals and the people who live there," Davis said. “It`s a win-win."
