Pine Bluff anti-violence group holds back-to-school event

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Hundreds turned out at the Pine Bluff Convention Center on Saturday for the Unity Back-To-School Bash.

The event was hosted by Pine Bluff Group Violence Intervention.

Vendors, which included the Pine Bluff School District and other local businesses, provided information along with supplies to get families ready for the upcoming school year.

Organizers said Saturday’s event is part of a local initiative to improve the quality of life for young people in the community.

"We really want to get the message that we want them to stay safe, stay alive, and state free,” Group Violence Intervention Director Kevin Crumpton said. “In other words, we don't want them to get locked up, we want them to stay with their families, we don't want to separate no child from their families. Stay safe, stay alive, and stay free."

Pine Bluff Group Violence is looking for more people to help with its mission.
