A Little Rock mother spending Mother's Day alone after losing her son to gun violence

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- LaTracy Bizzell said this has been one of the hardest days after the loss of her 15-year-old son Davin Chance Bizzell-Holmes on October 14, 2023.

"I didn't get a happy Mother's Day, mother, this morning," LaTracy Bizzell said. "This is my first Mother's Day without Davin and I'm extremely heartbroken."

Missing who her son was, and wishing she could hold him one last time.

"I love my baby so much, and I just miss us. This Mother's Day is just a sad, sad day for me," Bizzell said.

Bizzell remembered the day as if it were yesterday. Twenty minutes before getting the police call, she heard her son's voice for the last time.

"I got a phone call saying that my baby had been shot, and we got there a couple of minutes (later), and I saw my son in the car, and he was already deceased," Bizzell said.

Seeing him slumped over was her worst nightmare, an image she can't seem to shake.

"I knew that was my baby when I looked at him; I thought about this, a picture of him as a baby asleep just a couple weeks old," Bizzell said.

Saying today was really hard not spending it with her only son and calling for the violence to stop in Little Rock.

"I would say to think about what you do before you do it. I mean, you’re not only affecting your life and your family's life, but you affect everyone involved," Bizzell said.

It is a long road to justice for Davin, with numerous court dates, but Bizzell is hoping for answers as to what happened and why it happened to her son.

"I'm not the only mother that has this pain and it's excruciating," Bizzell said.

LaTracy is sending prayers to all the other parents, especially the mothers on this day who have lost their child to gun violence or had their child taken too early.

"He didn't get a chance to live his life that hurts a lot," Bizzell said. "The day he died, I died too."
