CARTI focuses on cervical cancer during its awareness month

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

Cervical cancer rates are increasing among women in their 30s and 40s. More than half of women diagnosed with the disease have either never been screened or have not been screened in the past five years.

Dr. Kathryn Kennedy from CARTI joined Arkansas Today to talk about and early detection and treatment.

Kennedy said human papillomavirus (HPV) causes about 90% of cervical cancer, which is why receiving the vaccine is recommended for prevention.
