Groups submit petition signatures to get ballot initiatives in front of Arkansas voters in November

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Multiple Arkansas groups have tallied up their petition signatures as they hope to get their ballot initiatives in front of voters in November.

Several groups shared news releases on Friday announcing success in meeting the signature requirements.

The signature goal to get constitutional amendments on the ballot in Arkansas is 90,704 signatures from around the state, with signatures coming from at least 50 counties.

Arkansans for Limited Government announced in a Friday release that the group has delivered more than 100,000 petition signatures from 54 counties for an amendment to the Arkansas Constitution that aims to enshrine abortion rights.

Local Voters in Charge announced that they tallied more than 162,000 petition signatures for a proposed amendment that would require a countywide vote for any new casino built in that county.

Organizers with Arkansas for Patient Access campaign said they submitted more than 111,000 signatures from 62 counties for an amendment to change the current medical marijuana laws, Amendment 98 to the Arkansas constitution, increasing access for patients.

Other groups announced that they were unsuccessful in gathering enough signatures to meet the requirement.

The Arkansas Press Association and Arkansas Citizens for Transparency, the groups that looked to make the Freedom of Information Act part of the Arkansas Constitution with an amendment and initiated act, said they fell short of getting enough signatures but met the requirement for qualifying in at least 50 counties.

APA also announced its intent to refile the proposed amendment in 2026.

For AR Kids announced that they collected under 70,000 signatures and qualified in 55 counties for their measure to get the Arkansas Educational Rights Amendment on the 2024 ballot.

The group said they intend to refile the ballot initiative in 2026.

Organizers with Arkansas Period Poverty Project said volunteers collected just under 44,000 signatures for an amendment looking to remove state and local sales tax on period products and diapers.

The Arkansas Secretary of State’s office has until Aug. 22 to determine which measures qualify for the November 2024 ballot.
