Little Rock VA holds topping off ceremony for Fisher House

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and Friends of Fisher House Arkansas held a topping off ceremony Monday for the building of a new Fisher House.

The new Fisher House will be located at the John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital. According to its website, a Fisher House is a home provided to military and veteran families free of charge.

Hospital officials said the new house will provide housing for 16 families and will serve families traveling to the health care center treatment. It will offer more than 5,800 nights of lodging each year, possibly saving families more than $1.1 million annually, officials said.

“We are incredibly excited about the progress that has been made on the Fisher House,” Medical Center Director Dr. Michael Moore said. “We have Veterans and family members who travel from out of state and even out of country to receive care here at CAVHS. Many of those Veterans and their families will no longer have to worry about associated expensive lodging fees.”

A groundbreaking was held in June. The estimated completion date is summer 2025.
