The only former Razorback to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl

NEW ORLEANS (KNWA/KFTA) — Dozens of former Razorback football players have played in the Super Bowl, but only one has scored a touchdown in the Big Game.

As the Dallas Cowboys were looking for their first Super Bowl in 1972 at Super Bowl VI in New Orleans, quarterback Roger Staubach looked to two veterans, tight end Mike Ditka and wide receiver and former Razorback Lance Alworth.

With the Cowboys leading the Miami Dolphins 3-0 in the second quarter, Staubach threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Alworth to extend the lead for Dallas to 10.

Alworth had a catch for 21 yards earlier in the drive and later said his two catches in the game were "the two most important catches of his career."

The Cowboys would go on to win 24-3 with Ditka catching a touchdown pass from Staubach and Duane Thomas running for a touchdown.

That Super Bowl win would be Alworth's only one as he retired one season later.

Before playing for the Cowboys, Alworth spent nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers and played at the University of Arkansas for three seasons.
