Sue Cowan Williams Library announces re-opening date after closure due to fire
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the Central Arkansas Library System have said that the Sue Cowan Williams Library will be re-opening on Thursday Sept. 5 after closing for smoke and damage repair from a fire they said was intentional.
According to a post from CALS, surveillance footage showed a suspect enter the restroom just before the library closed for the evening on Saturday Aug. 24. The post said that the suspect also re-appeared on cameras mid-day Sunday.
Investigators said the fire was put out in a utility closet by a responder with a fire extinguisher with no injuries reported. Damage was also reported to be contained to the immediate area of the closet.
“Fortunately, the suspect’s access was limited to a small section of the building, preventing more extensive damage,” the post from CALS said.
The library said that after-school meals have been temporarily re-located to Dunbar Middle School.
