Arkansas State Police launching new safety pedestrian, cyclist safety campaign

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – In honor of National Pedestrian Safety Month, Arkansas State Police are launching a new campaign to promote safe roadways for pedestrians and cyclists.

ASP officials are launching a new campaign called “Fourth Wall,” which will run from Oct. 7-19.

The campaign is pushing everyone to be responsible and alert by “breaking the fourth wall” on roadways. The term “fourth wall” is used when actors break a barrier between their audience.

"Many of us fail to realize that pedestrians and cyclists are often at higher risk on our roadways,” Arkansas Public Safety Secretary Colonel Mike Hagar said. “Whether walking, cycling or driving, every Arkansan can help make Arkansas a safer place for all road users by staying alert, following safety guidelines and taking responsibility for road safety.”

According to ASP officials, data shows that Arkansas has seen an increased number of pedestrian fatalities, with 79 deaths in 2022.
