Arkansas Governor issues statement on deadly Mad Butcher grocery store shooting in Fordyce

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Following a deadly shooting at a Fordyce grocery store, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement that her prayers are with the victims.

The incident happened Friday afternoon when several law enforcement agencies were called to a shooting near the Mad Butcher grocery store.

“I have been briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I’m in constant contact with State Police at the scene. I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this,” Gov. Sanders stated on X, the platform previously known as Twitter.

According to an update from Arkansas State Police, nine people were shot, two died and a police officer was also shot and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

ASP officials also said that the shooter was critically injured and has been taken into custody.
