Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders declares disaster in two counties due to July storms, flooding

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The lingering effects of the July 17 storms and flooding have led Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders to declare a disaster in two counties.

Sanders signed an executive order on Wednesday adding Marion and Searcy counties as disaster areas due to the storms.

The order states that by making a disaster declaration, additional assistance is now available from the state. However, the scope and detail of this assistance were not part of the order.

On July 17, storms through the north-central part of the state caused flooding and damaged property and roads. Conway in Faulkner County reported six inches of rain in just a few hours, and other parts of the state reported 11 inches overnight.
