Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission to host food giveaway event after Memorial Day

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will host a food giveaway to combat food insecurity in the community after the Memorial Day weekend.

The event will be held Thursday, May 30, at the commission’s office at 906 Broadway in Little Rock, beginning at 11 a.m.

Executive director DuShun Scarbrough explained the importance of the giveaway as families come together to celebrate the holiday.

“As the community comes together to honor and remember those who have served our country, the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission recognizes the importance of supporting our neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity,” Scarbrough said. “Our goal is to ensure that no family goes hungry, and events like this are crucial in providing immediate relief to those in need. The recent Memorial Day holiday highlights not only the sacrifices made by our service members and women but also the need for community solidarity and support.”

The food giveaway will include canned goods, non-perishable items and more. Food will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, officials said.

Commission officials said that no registration is required, and the event is open to anyone facing food insecurity.
