Little Rock Air Force Base airman receives prestigious award

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An airman at the Little Rock Air Force Base has received a prestigious national award honoring her leadership and volunteerism.

Senior Airman Danielle Ziemba is the only  Air Force member to receive the 2023 Government Employee Insurance Company Military Service Award. The award honors a single member from each of the six armed services and National Guard for achievements and contributions to military and civilian communities.

Ziemba, a bioenvironmental engineering technician with the base’s 19th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, has a long history of service. She was the LRAFB’s First Four Council President, which led her to guide 620 peers through 12 professional development seminars and organize three dorm resident events.

“I have always had a passion for leading,” Ziemba said. “Serving as president presented an opportunity to blend my passion for leadership with a sense of purpose, ensuring that every ounce of dedication and effort exerted into this role would be channeled to directly benefit Airmen and the community.”

The airman also led an 18-person team that restocked the Feed the Veterans pantry, the only veteran-dedicated pantry in Arkansas.

Recently, Ziemba collaborated with seven area non-profits, leading 212 volunteers through 110 hours of community service, including spearheading three Arkansas tornado relief fundraisers.

She has previously won the United States President Lifetime Achievement Award after contributing 5,000 volunteer hours. Other accomplishments include winning the 19th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron’s Airman of the Year and Air Force Medical Service Bioenvironmental Engineering Airman of the Year for 2022. These awards were instrumental in Airman Ziemba being selected for Senior Airman, Below-the-Zone in 2022, according to air base officials.

Her military awards include the Humanitarian Service Medal.

Ziemba joined the Air Force in 2019 and is currently pursuing a path toward an officer’s commission.
