USDA program funding free meals for all students at 19 Pulaski County Special School District schools during 2024-2025 school year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A government program will allow selected Pulaski County Special School District schools to serve free meals to all students in the coming school year.

The United States Department of Agriculture program, working through the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, provides for no-cost meals for selected schools.

The schools are:

Cato Elementary
College Station Elementary
Crystal Hill Elementary
Daisy Bates Elementary
Harris Elementary
Joe T. Robinson Elementary
Landmark Elementary
Lawson Elementary
Oak Grove Elementary
Oakbrooke Elementary
Pine Forest Elementary
Sherwood Elementary
Sylvan Hills Elementary
William Jefferson Clinton Elementary
Maumelle Middle
Mills Middle
Sylvan Hills Middle
Sylvan Hills Junior High
Mills University Studies High

The USDA refers to the program as Provision 2, which allows eligible schools to serve no-cost meals for up to four consecutive years while lowering their record-keeping requirement.

Under Provision 2, officials said the school is not required to gather free and reduced lunch applications after its first year in the program but is instead reimbursed based on claimed percentages.

PCSSD officials said the Provision 2 program may be eligible for a four-year extension.
