Little Rock Zoo celebrates World Rhino Day
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock Zoo celebrated World Rhino Day Sunday, while raising awareness to help preserve the endangered animals.
Two rhinos, 18-year-old black rhino Andazi and her son, 3-year-old Kevin, live at the Little Rock Zoo.
The zoo is a part of an international program that works to breed endangered animals like rhinos, who, unfortunately, are still poached for their tusks.
Rhinos have also seen a loss of habitat and other challenges to their survival.
"We are part of the black rhino Species Survival Plan, or SSP, that kind of acts like an online dating program for all rhinos in captivity,” Little Rock Zoo rhinoceros caretaker Justin Marrin said.
A portion of the proceeds from Sunday's event will go to the International Rhino Foundation.
